On Purpose

Hello Funkstrians!

Ever since Spring Break has been over, it has been a whirlwind in the life of Funkyman. Besides preparing for my CD release and party on April 17 (SO CLOSE!), this is the busiest time of year due to concerts and end-of-the-year stuff for schools, and it could drive someone over the edge.

It COULD drive someone over. But not me.

You see, I am fortunate to have something in my life that most of us search for our whole lives - purpose.

Outside of loving my Creator, I don't know what my ultimate purpose is, so my search continues - but I do know my short-term ones:

Father
Husband
Teacher
Director
Composer
Musician

. . . in that order.

I believe that the reason I'm so busy is not because I'm a workaholic. I'm not busy because working is what I'm doing. It's because what I'm doing is working. :-)

Here's what April looks like for Funkyman.

April 9 - REJOICE!
For 10 years, high schools across Massachusetts have come together for a day of singing and sharing Gospel music. Created in 2002 by Geoff O'Hara, the REJOICE! Gospel Workshop consists of an afternoon of workshops lead by choir directors, and a coming together of the choirs from the different schools to form one large choir. We learn the songs that day and perform them in concert that night. This year's event was held at Tufts University, and it was a huge success! Looking forward to next year already!

April 11 - Dana Hall Chamber Singers at Fenway
We're back! For the 5th year in a row, we've been invited to sing the National Anthem before a Red Sox game. For 4 years, the Red Sox have won the game we sang at! Obviously, however, there is no correlation to our presence and the Red Sox's performance (16-5 loss last night - OUCH!)

April 15 - American Cancer Society Relay for Life
Tufts Third Day Gospel Choir will sing at the kickoff celebration for Relay for Life directly following our rehearsal on Friday. A good cause, and a great reason to sing and celebrate with gospel music.

April 16 - Tufts Third Day Spring Concert
Want to see/hear 225 voices rocking the stage? 8 p.m. - Cohen Auditorium, Aidekman Arts Center. The theme is GOD IS GOOD.

April 17 - THE ADVENTURES OF FUNKYMAN CD RELEASE PARTY/CONCERT
It's finally here. Oberon - 2 Arrow St., Cambridge, MA - 6:30 p.m. If you're planning to attend and have NOT RSVP'd - let me know!

April 29 - Dana Hall School Spring Concert
The one event where every ensemble at the school come together for an evening of music - more than 200 students. It's epic.

This list does not include speaking engagements or admissions events (Chamber Singers have 6 separate performances this month alone) - but you get the idea.

I don't even have a lot of time to write this week because I'm behind in e-mails. Gotta go and catch up.

But hey, don't think I'm in this predicament because I don't know how to organize or how to figure out what to do with my time.

I did it . . . on purpose.
